Cousins at Christmas, 1971

In this photo are a collection of cousins who gathered together at Christmas time 1971. From left to right are Carmen Moore (with cat “Sandy”), Julie Haines-Adams (holding the handles of a children’s wheelbarrow), Dionne Moore (on her new bike) and Shane Moore. The wallpaper in this photo was on the rear wall and also went up the stairs. It shows a beige background with a repeated geometric print in various shades of fawn and brown.

Julie and Sandy, 1968

Julie is pictured sitting on a proper “double” wooden school desk, which was located in the corner of the lounge at 90 Sundorne Road. She is shown with her cat, and the photo is annotated on the reverse as “Julie + Sandy – December 1968”. In the background is a yellow curtain, which could be drawn in front of a French window which opened onto the patio. You can see a pale cream wallpaper behind Julie, which has a repeated pattern of plants and berries on it.

Music Time, 1992

In the summer of 1992, there was a small family get-together at 90 Sundorne Road, when visitors from Germany met some of their English second-cousins. Pictured at the piano, from left to right, are Hans Riegel, Peter Williams, Jenna Williams and Anna Riegel, with Margrid and Knut Riegel at the back. The wallpaper in this photo has been on the back wall of the dining room since before 1964, right up until the property was sold in 2011. There was a slight texture to the paper and was featured along the entire back wall of the dining room, with a pale grey paper on the other walls. The background colour (black), was presumably chosen to match the ebony hearth surround, enclosing a cream coloured tiled fireplace. An identical fireplace was also in the lounge at the same property.

Happy New House! 2004

Adrian Brown and Julie Haines-Adams moved into their new home in Shawbury in Spring 2004. They soon got to work decorating their dining room. Adrian can be seen here, taking down the old wallpaper (beige, white and pale green vertical stipes), which covered all four walls in this room. The house was built in 1968 and only had one previous owner, so the paper is likely to have been put up by them shortly after they moved into the property. Amberleigh House won the Grand National in the Spring of 2004, so Adrian and Julie considered naming the property after the winner, “Amberleigh House” – the only trouble was, that their new home was not actually a house, but a bungalow… The property remains unnamed to this day!
